Mr. Schmalz
provides consulting services
for the marketing and business development segment of diagnostics.
His expertise is in the area of molecular diagnostics with an
emphasis on infectious diseases and oncology.
Mr. Schmalz has
a BS in Marketing and English from the University of Maryland at
College Park. In
addition to his college degrees, Mr. Schmalz has completed executive
management courses at Northwestern University’s Kellogg Business
School. His extensive
business experience in the field of diagnostics gained him a
nomination to join the Board of Directors for the Biomedical
Marketing Association (BMA) where he served as a board member from
2001-2004. Mr. Schmalz
has 18 years of marketing and business development experience in the
field of diagnostic for major fortune 100 companies including:
Abbott Diagnostics, Chiron Diagnostics, Bayer Diagnostics and
Laboratory Corporation of America (LabCorp).
Mr.
Schmalzs’ background is particularly useful for clients
with biomedical products (reagents & instruments) that are
either IVD or Pre-IVD (Analyte Specific Reagent - ASR) that are
interested in commercializing their operations in the US.
The commercialization process may include partnering with a
major reference laboratory as a distribution arm or licensing
technology rights to laboratories / companies for development of
their own ASR. Mr.
Schmalzs’ experience also includes the development and
implementation of comprehensive marketing plans and branding
strategies for launching new products in the US.
